AI policy

The problems on the Wisconsin Math Talent Search are designed to spark curiosity, encourage creative thinking, and give students the satisfaction of solving challenging problems on their own. Using AI tools to solve these problems takes away those opportunities and makes it harder to fairly compare students’ mathematical reasoning and effort. Therefore, students may not use generative AI tools, including ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Claude, or similar systems, to solve problems, explain solutions, check answers, generate code, or provide mathematical reasoning. Students should develop their own ideas and solutions. Tools that only help with calculations or drawing diagrams may be used, provided they do not suggest methods or strategies for solving the problems.
